Tinnitus And Other Symptoms Related To This Medical Condition
Ever seen a person putting a finger inside an ear and shaking the auricle for everything that it is worth? Everyone knows that this is a pointless exercise but people still do this anyway. That person could be experiencing three things. One: a feeling of liquid sloshing around in the ear canal. Two: a feeling of ear fullness where everything around is muffled or barely audible. Three: there is that high pitched ringing in ears sensation that barely goes away. All three instances are possible signs of hearing related problems. Unfortunately, it is the third one that people should look out for.
Tinnitus or that condition where the person suffers from an incessant ringing of the ears is a very common problem these days. But this condition is not marked by the ear ringing sensations alone. If left untreated, it can lead to a person having the liquid-sloshing feeling and getting that full muffled ear at the same time. The other facet to this condition is that tinnitus treatment cannot be availed of unless the person and the doctor manage to pinpoint the actual cause of the tinnitus itself. In other words, this ringing in the ears sensation is the body’s way of sending out a distress signal that there is a graver medical condition that the person is facing. The ringing sensation will most likely go away only when the underlying problem is cured.
Such is the case of a person feeling that slush like liquid inside the ear canal. The funny thing about this is that: the person will most likely jump up and down, hoping to dislodge the liquid inside. Or, that person will take a cotton tip bud and try to soak up the “water” within. These are futile endeavors, because that liquid is inherent in the ear’s structure. The inner ear, also termed as cochlea is a liquid-filled tube that houses thousands upon thousands of tiny sensitive hairs. When a person is sick or suffering from flu-like maladies, there is a dramatic change in the level of that liquid. That displacement, a medical condition called ear infection, can be felt as the sloshing movement. The ringing sensation is brought about by the constant vibration of the tiny hairs in the cochlea… an apparent sign of physiological distress over the liquid displacement.
Sometimes a person experiences that constant ear-filled sensation, where everything seems to be muted and inaudible. This is a sign that the sensitive hairs inside the ear canal have already been damaged. No amount of auricle shaking or cotton tip bud cleaning will clear that person’s auditory senses. It should be pointed out that the main function of those tiny hairs inside the inner ear is to bend and flex according to the auditory stimulus. These tiny movements can help bring the slightest sound to the person’s awareness. If the hairs are damaged, the movements cease altogether, causing the muffled hearing sensation. Unfortunately, when the hairs are damaged beyond repair, the remaining pieces begin to vibrate on its own. This is another sign of physiological distress that gives off that high piercing ringing sound inside the ear.
It is then imperative to seek medical advice from both a hearing specialist, and a general practitioner. Again, the tinnitus will go away only when the underlying medical condition is addressed first.
