Tinnitus: Taking Care Of Your Mental Health
Did you know that the severest cases of the ear ringing sensation can cause a rapid deterioration of mental and physical health? This can be likened to a person hearing voices inside their heads on a 24/7 basis. Unfortunately, that ringing in ears sensation, or to be more precise: tinnitus does not only come in the form of piercing rings only. Numerous cases of tinnitus have proven that people hear everything from beeps, buzzes, clicking or clanking noises, deep hums, hisses, ticking noises, water or wind roaring, whines, and even train whistle blasting. Some documented cases have seen people suffering from the incessant clacking noises of silverware upon china, even when there are none in the general area. One of the most extreme cases of this shows a woman refusing to eat because of all the noise around her, with her refusing to touch anything made of silverware or china.
The bottom line is: all this internal audible noise, when set to the most extreme, can make a person feel ill, and less prone to do anything useful. The person’s mental health suffers greatly because there is no relief from the noise, and that these noises do not allow the person to think at all.
If you are suffering from mild to moderate case of tinnitus, it is imperative to seek medical consultation as soon as possible. You may not know it, but that ringing of the ears may already be affecting your mental health. Try to make a checklist as to how you are feeling right now. Do you feel irritable? Do you feel easily ticked off by anything at all? Do you feel tired after every bout of internal audible noise? When you hear the tinnitus in your head, do you find different ways of distracting yourself? Do you feel suddenly angry when you hear a loud noise around you? Do you sense yourself raising your voice more often than you used do? Do you try to avoid “quiet” situations wherein you know that you will hear any sensation resembling ringing in the ears?
If you say yes to more than 2 of these questions then you really need to find tinnitus treatment right away. These are the visible signs that you are moving on your own accord to “get away” from the problem. But the thing is: since this problem is in your head (with all probability, inside your cochlea or inner ear) there really is no escaping it. Instead of groping around in the dark and trying to find ways of gaining reprieve from the noise, you need to work with your health care provider as to how you can tone down the ringing sensation so that you can actually think and function as you should.
Your health care provider will most likely subject you to a battery of tests to see whether your condition is brought about by physiological changes or ailments (like ear infection.) Your doctor may even send you to a specialist (an EENT or ENT) to diagnose your problem correctly. The sooner you get the correct diagnosis for your problem, the quicker you can preserve both your mental and your physical health.
