Tinnitus – The Long Road To Recovery

The stress and personal well being is dramatically effected when suffering from Tinnitus. There are many ways to treat and fight this, and today more then ever you can find online info about treating tinnitus. Read here about Tinnitus and see if you can find your own remedy to Tinnitis.

The classic tinnitus cycle is very hard to break due to the fact that stress is a huge factor. Let me explain, when your body has been under long continued periods of stress your tinnitus levels will get louder. When your symptoms rise it can often lead to insomnia which leaves you feeling tired and again will cause your tinnitus levels to rise even further. As you can see it really can be extremely hard on the emotions as your battle with ear ringing progresses.

Stop tinnitus noises and the roller coaster of emotions:

At times it may be more confusing for people who do not know what is wrong with them or who have non-supportive doctors that tell them to “get over it” or just to live with tinnitus.

Many people with a hissing in the ears, like Ellen, find that it completely interferes with normal daily functions of their lives. You may struggle concentrating, remembering things, listening to others and focusing on tasks. This makes it nearly impossible to function properly on a job or in society.

Many people with tinnitus go through the same process as people with other medical conditions and disorders. At first you may feel denial, then anger and frustration (especially if you are being told there is no cure and nothing will help) and next you may feel hopeless and depressed. You will think why this had to happen to you and obsess on the fact that your life will never be the same. Next comes fear.

You may stress that you will never live a normal life again, fear that this ringing in the ears will interfere with your job and your family, fear that you will never be able to enjoy the same things and fear that you are going crazy or that there is something mentally “wrong” with you. At some point along the way if you hope to find a cure, you will need to find acceptance.

Acceptance- With acceptance comes the realization that while you do have this condition and there is no cure for ear ringing, that doesn’t mean you have to be a victim for the rest of your life.

Once you reach the point of acceptance, instead of dwelling on what you don’t have, you can begin searching for a cure or some relief for your ringing in the ears. Remember also that tinnitus does not only take an emotional toll on the sufferer but their family, coworkers and friends as well.

Ellen and John Currie have been helping tinnitus sufferers from the tinnitus website since 1999, we offer both email and telephonic support for sufferers to overcome their battle in finding a cure for tinnitus. Learn how you too can stop tinnitus from driving you crazy.

Tinnitus – What Is Tinnitus Exactly?

The ringing in the ears can be stopped and treated. Many Tinnitus sufferes tried many methods and failed, but it doesnt mean thats impossible, just that you didnt find the right way for your Tinnitus. Here is another oppertunity to learn something new about Tinnitus and share what you think about it. Click here to learn how to stop your Tinnitus permanently.

So you want to learn about tinnitus?

Sometimes you may experience buzzing or whistling noise in your ears that may last for 24 hours a day. It may be constant without any break. This is not external source of noise, but rather due to muscle contractions near the ear, changes in the ear canal, or blood flow (vascular) problems.

Its not just people who suffer from tinnitus who hear this noise. We all sometime may experience tinnitus for short periods of time. For example, if we have been exposed to loud music for long periods of time, we sometimes can experience symptoms of tinnitus.

Normally, the ringing or buzzing in the ears will go way after awhile. But if it continues, chances are it is tinnitus. People who suffer from this condition find it very hard to cope with, as it is awfully disturbing and uncomfortable.

People over the age of 40 are more likely to experience this problem. In the younger age groups, it is quite rare. This disease is more common in men than in women.

There are two main types of tinnitus:

Non-vibratory tinnitus is caused by problems in the central or peripheral nerves involved with hearing. One may experience hearing sound in one or both ears. Sometimes this type of tinnitus may seem like the sound is coming from inside the head.

Vibratory tinnitus is often caused by mechanical sounds created by muscle contractions near the ear, changes in the ear canal, or blood flow (vascular) problems involving the face or neck. It is possible that one may hear sounds such as your own pulse or the contractions of your muscles which is referred to as pulsatile tinnitus. The major cause of tinnitus may be prolonged exposure to loud noise (auditory trauma) that can damage the nerves in the inner ear. However, tinnitus can crop up with all types of hearing loss and may be a symptom of almost any ear disorder.

Even some have it has been referred as “the club disease”. This is because people experience tinnitus or “ringing ears” after attending loud clubs or concerts.

The ones who suffer from this hearing problem is certainly not a result of their imagination. While most cases of tinnitus are temporary and will go away after certain period, some cases require medical attention.

Tinnitus Advice

The maddening ear ringing, often addressed as Tinitus makes people suffer all over the world. Surgery often suggested by doctors as a solution, others suggest natural remedy for it. Click here to learn how to stop your Tinnitus permanently.

I wanted to share with you a bit of tinnitus advice. It’s surprising how many people suffer from this problem, but don’t know what the technical name is for it. This is a condition where you hear ringing in your ears all the time, everyday. It’s just an on going annoyance that you have to live with. There are a lot of different reasons that this could of happened to a person and there really isn’t much of a solution out there from the medical community on getting rid of this problem for good. I want to share a little of tinnitus advice with you to help you get a little more control over it.

How did this happen?

There is any number of reasons that this could of occurred and there is some consensus on theories, and skepticism in others. The belief that this happened through exposer to loud noise is a consensus. If you were exposed to loud nose like a war veteran would of experienced than that might explain why you have tinnitus.

Other theories that have less consensus are ear infections and ear wax buildup. This could be causing the problem for you as well and should be noted.

My tinnitus advice for you is to seek safer solutions to this problem. The medical community will want to do surgery on your ear. It might be a success or you could come out of it deaf. There are natural therapies available that can help you unconsciously ignore the ringing sound. These solutions are much better.

Tinnitus – Is This Ringing in My Ear a Disease and Can Others Hear What I Am Hearing?

Thanks for returning to the main Tinnitus blog, I try to put here all the info I can find, online and offline , to let people know about their Tinnitus, and learn how it happend, what can be done, and most important not to loose hope. Please, leave a comment about this post and tell other Tinitus sufferes what you have been going through.

Tinnitus is a common problem that affects about one in five people. It is actually a symptom that manifests itself by the person hearing a noise or ringing in the ear when there is actually no external noise or sound present.

Tinnitus symptoms not only include ringing in ear but may also be heard as:

• Whistling
• Buzzing
• Roaring
• Clicking
• Pulsing
• Ocean waves
• Dial Tones

The sound can vary in pitch from low to high, can be sing tone or multi-tonal, be in one ear or both and may be constant, intermittent or pulsing.

There are two classifications of Tinnitus:

Subjective – which is the most common symptom that is a form only audible to the person. This symptom in particular is also thought to be reported in 80 percent of those who suffer sensorineural hearing loss.

Objective – mostly associated with vascular or muscular disorders and relates to less than 5 percent Tinnitus cases. Unlike Subjective Tinnitus, this symptom is audible to your doctor and is often described as pulsatile, or synchronous to the persons heartbeat.

Though the severity of Tinnitus symptoms may vary, the annoying ringing in ear may also be the cause for difficulty sleeping, loss of concentration, depression and anxiety.

Being that Tinnitus is not a condition but rather a symptom of some other health problem, it is recommended that a doctor be consulted to possibly find the root cause. Some treatments that may be suggested are noise suppression devices and medications.

In addition, there is now a Tinnitus natural remedy available that can reduce and even stop ringing in ears. For more information on this fantastic new development Click Here!

TRT: a more pleasant pathway to be tinnitus-free

I'd be happy to learn new things about Tinnitus. Information is growing very fast, and although I try to bring as often and as much new info about Tinnitus, Its still impossible to bring and find all the new things that are learnt about it. Please feel free to post comment if you have more info to share about the ear ringing problem.

Most people just hate taking one bitter pill after another or any other form of unpleasant medication.  Hence, persons bothered by the condition medically called tinnitus or in layman’s terms ringing of the ears, would be pleased to know that there is a more palatable way of dealing with their problem.

This type of treatment is based on the premise that tinnitus is not a disease but a mere compensatory reaction of the auditory system to some external stimuli.  This school of thought in tinnitus treatment follows the research finding of a neuroscientist, Jawel Jasterboff, that demonstrates that tinnitus is not a “ear thing” but a “brain thing”, and conditioning or retraining the brain will provide relief on ear ringing.

One exponent of this retraining method is noiserelief.com in a process it calls auditory habituation.  This method relies on individuals with ear-ringing problems to listen to digitally recorded “white noise” played either in mp3 or cd format.  The sound level of this white noise is recorded below the level of the ear noise experienced by the tinnitus-inflicted person so that the annoyance would become   less pronounced.  Reputedly, this sound recording is based on the Jasterboff model and electro-acoustic research.

Lots of patience, however, is needed for this type of relieving ringing in the ears, as the auditory habituation process will purportedly take 6 to 18 months to take effect. The website also advises that counselling in tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT) should be undertaken with a certified TRT specialist to complement the auditory habituation treatment.

The TRT based on the Jasterboff model of tinnitus began in the mid-1980s in the UK. The first TRT center in the US was established in Baltimore in 1990.  It picked up in popularity so much so that a number of medical practitioners adopted TRT for their patients with ear ringing problems.  This type of treatment requires a considerable amount of time for one-on-one counselling of the TRT specialist with an individual patient.

An aspiring TRT specialist needs to take an intensive three-day course to master the complexities this tinnitus treatment method.  A number of physicians and audiologist in the US have already taken this TRT, a listing of which is available in the tinnitus.org website. An association of TRT specialists has already been established for further professionalizing of the tinnitus retraining therapists, one indication that this type of treatment of ear ringing has gained medical credence.

A paperback on TRT published by the Cambridge University should also be of interest to those interested in overcoming tinnitus- Titled Tinnitus Retraining Therapy: Implementing the Neurophysiological Model by Pawel Jasterboff and Jonathan Hazell.  In this book, the authors detail the research literature justifying their claim on the effectiveness of TRT, a practice that is now in the armamentarium of many psychologists, audiologists, ENTs and medical counsellors.  While the book is intended for these professionals, it also appears as a sound reference material for those undergoing or would like to undergo the therapy. A glossary in this book, plus marginal notes, should enable a layman to learn if indeed TRT is a more pleasant pathway to be tinnitus-free.

Important Facts About Tinnitus

Can you relate to this? As a Tinnitussufferer does it speak to you? Or is this like so many doctors you have surely saw and you didnt relate to?

Tinnitus is a condition where a person perceives whistling, ringing in the ears, humming or many other kinds of sounds that seem to come from the ear or even the head. Usually, only the person with tinnitus can hear the noise. Actually, tinnitus is not a disease, but a symptom of another illness. In most cases, tinnitus is not a serious problem, but it is such a big nuisance to a patient’s daily life. Tinnitus can occur either in the outer, middle or the inner ear or even in the brain. If a person gets inside an enclosed, quiet room, external noise disappears and he hears the tinnitus sounds. He does not hear them when outside noise covers them. Any other thing like earwax, or other matter that entered the external ear also blocks the outside noise and will make him more aware of the tinnitus sounds in his head. Other causes of tinnitus are fluid infections or disease in the ear bones or the ear drum.

Another very common cause of tinnitus is when the inner ear’s hearing nerve is damaged due to age. As people age, their hearing becomes impaired which may be followed by tinnitus. Exposure to very loud sounds like firearms, fireworks or high intensity music can also damage the hearing and cause tinnitus. Aspirin can also cause tinnitus, especially if taken in overdose. Tinnitus can also be a symptom of the dreaded diseases like aneuryson or brain tumor. Fortunately, the occurrence of these cases is very rare.

To be able to determine the precise cause or origin of the tinnitus, it is essential for the patient to have a thorough physical examination and a series of tests. The doctor also needs the patient’s medical history. The doctor must also know if the tinnitus is either pulsating or constant or if it is recurrent or intermittent. It will help to know if it is associated with loss of hearing or loss of balance (an illness known as vertigo).

Patients with persistent signs of tinnitus are usually given a hearing test called audiogram. All these will contribute for a more precise diagnosis. There are several tests that a patient suffering from persistent tinnitus needs to undergo in order to rule out possible tumors that may occur on the hearing or the balance nerve. Though tumors are very uncommon, they may still cause tinnitus. Such tests are the ABR (auditory brain stem response), CT scan (computer tomography), MRI scan (magnetic resonance imaging), and a computerized test of the hearing nerves and brain pathways.

After a careful and thorough evaluation, causes can be identified by the attending doctor. Once they have decided on the cause of the tinnitus, they can now recommend tinnitus treatment for the patient. In many cases, tinnitus cannot be treated. It may resolve by itself or stay permanently with the patient. Some doctors recommend the medication called “niacin” as tinnitus treatment. However, there is no guarantee that niacin can help get rid of tinnitus.

If you are a sufferer of the irritating tinnitus, take the mentioned precautionary steps and measures to ensure yourself of a tinnitus-free life.

There are many conditions that affect the hearing, so it is important to protect your ears. One of these conditions is tinnitus, which is defined as the perception of a sound in the ears or head absent an external noise. One of its most common causes is repeated exposure to loud noise, just like listening to MP3 players and going to pubs. In layman’s term, the condition is known as ringing in the ears. It may not be as serious as it sounds, but it poses serious effects and implications.

An estimate of 66 million individuals are suffering from tinnitus in the United States alone, and about 12 million are severely affected by it. However, a majority of these sufferers do not know that the condition exists until they have been diagnosed of it. What they do not know is that their unhealthy practices such as listening to music at a very high volume and not using hearing protection devices when they are in very noisy places may lead to something serious.

To motivate you to protect your ears, here are some of the effects and implications brought about by tinnitus. One is that the the ringing noise could get so loud that you do not get enough sleep. What happens next is that you easily get fatigued when doing your daily tasks. You would get stressed, which increases the level of the unwanted noise. More serious effects include the weakening of your immune system, thus making you more vulnerable to infections and diseases. This is the least thing that you want to happen to you, do you?

Treatments for tinnitus have been available such as then use of hearing aids and maskers, as well as alternative treatments such as homeopathic tinnitus remedies, herbal medicines, acupressure, acupuncture, reflexology and relaxation. However, as the cliché goes, Prevention is better than a cure.

If you do not have tinnitus yet, or any other ear conditions, then you better protect your ears, which can be done through sheer common sense. It is as practical as putting the volume of your MP3 players, iPods, or CD players at a moderate level. You must also lessen going to pubs and concert places where your ears will exposed and get shocked of the extremely loud noises or if you do go wear earplugs. You should not get complacent and tell yourself that no, this can’t happen to me. Remember that there are millions of tinnitus sufferers, and over 85% of these cases of tinnitus are noise-induced.

If you would like to learn more about tinnitus from noise and how you can protect your ears, make sure download this FREE 130pg tinnitus book. We have noticed that the best results have been achieved with homeopathic tinnitus treatments in our years of dealing with noise induced tinnitus since 1999.

Tinnitus Plagues 36 Million Americans

Here is another post about Tinnitus the ear ringing "disease", as I always say its important to learn and get updated about Tinitus since its one of those things that western medicine many times cant really supply a full healing, and we the suffereres need to take care of ourselfs.

Tinnitus is a hearing disorder characterized by the swooshing, buzzing or ringing in the ears.  Although it was not perceived to be a serious problem which may disappear in time, it has already plagues more than 36 million Americans.  A number that has already prompted into action many concerned people to not only know the cause and more especially the treatment for tinnitus.  In fact, the American Tinnitus Association has been funding many researches to get to the bottom of this disorder.  Currently, there are already many claims of cure for tinnitus and many of those are being offered online in the forms of an e-book , a DVD or a book.

One study made on tinnitus is its effect on the mental activity of a person.  The performance of 20 subjects with the tinnitus disorder and 20 healthy subjects were made and compared.  They went other different tests applying different auditory conditions and situations.  The final result suggests that there is indeed a link between masking sounds and on how tinnitus affects the mental or cognitive capacity of a person.  Therefore, it is very important that this disorder is prevented so that tinnitus treatment will no longer be necessary.

To prevent it, it is first important to know what causes it.  Tinnitus can be classified into three, the ear sounds, the ringing in the ears and the buzzing in the ears.  Some of the causes under the first classification are earache, ear infection, auditory nerve tumor, anemia, heart murmur, exposure to extremely loud noise, ear wax, fluid in the ear, and some other diseases.  For the ringing in the ears, the causes are the intake of some drugs or chemicals that directly affected the ear like ativan withdrawal, Darvocet overdose, chemical poisoning of Benzene, Aniline or other chemicals.  The buzzing in the ears may be caused by some other types of illnesses like epilepsy, etc.

Just as there are many causes, tinnitus also may have many treatments depending on the causes.  However, there are cases wherein tinnitus may not be treated and becomes something that a patient will have to carry all his life.  This fact makes it more important for people not affected by it to be doubly careful that they never get it.  One of the most common cause is being exposed to loud noise.  Rock concerts, the use of earphones when listening to music, loud noise in the workplace, etc., may cause damage to your ears.  It is vital that you be careful not to expose yourself to those problems.  Taking some medications may also be a cause for it so it is important that only prescribed drugs are taken and never self-medicate.  Remember, prevention is better than cure.

As for the tinnitus treatments, the cause is also the main basis.  Treatment depending on the cause may range from as simple as cleaning the ears to a Gamma knife radiosurgery.  Other cures may be the taking of drugs or other nutrients to be prescribed by the doctor, electrical stimulation, surgery, psychological therapy, etc.  Tinnitus can be acquired by just about anybody.  Some of the famous (and infamous) people afflicted with this disorder are Adolf Hitler, Joan of Arc, Vincent Van Gogh, Michaelangelo, Steve Martin, David Letterman, Martin Luther, William Shatner and Barbara Streisand among others.

Tinnitus – Know How it Develops and Progresses to Prevent Hearing Loss

In any war intelligence is one of the most important things. In the war against Tinnitus its even more important, cause of the ignorance of western medicine. I hope this post will shed more light about Tinnitus. Post a comment if you liked it.

For millions of people suffering from hearing loss and other ear problems, tinnitus may be one of the most obvious symptoms. There are variations to this type of hearing perceptions as well depending on the severity of the condition as well as the areas affected. Learning how it develops and progresses will further help patients cope with temporary and long term effects.

Tinnitus is not a disease but a symptom. The term originated from the Latin word which means “ringing” since patients who have it perceive high-pitched ringing sounds at varying degrees and durations. Even without the presence of actual external sounds, the affected individual may still perceive or hear noises in one or both ears or in the head. Tinnitus is part of the compensatory mechanisms done by the auditory system due to underlying factors.

The ringing or noise perceived by affected persons is usually described as high-pitched buzzing, hissing, whistling, humming or whining similar to a boiling kettle. Others may also describe it as ticking, roaring, pulsing, clicking, beeping, whooshing or swishing like waves, similar to familiar tunes or songs or similar to sounds made by crickets, locusts and tree frogs. Even without any external background noises or with very loud ones the sounds may still be heard by patients.

The main problem of tinnitus is the nuisance or distress created although it is not a serious symptom. Around 36 million people in the United States have the disorder. Tinnitus is a symptom that arises from ear damage or other underlying ear problems. It can occur in any of the four ear regions namely the outer ear, middle ear, inner ear and brain. Mild tinnitus is normal which is perceivable in very quiet places.

There are also a number of causes such as damage to inner ear nerves, old age, loud noise exposure, middle ear bones or ear drum disease, ear infection, fluid imbalance, Meniere’s Disease, acoustic shock, aneurysm, brain tumor, acoustic neuroma and many others. How to Avoid Tinnitus

What is so special about Tinnitus that doctors find it so hard to cure in so many people? How come its a so "un known" disease and yet about 10% of the population having their lifes upside down because of it? What is your explanation?

The sense of hearing is one of the most important functions of the human body. The ears are among the most delicate and sensitive mechanisms. Let us give our ears utmost care and protection. Let us not give “tinnitus” a chance to invade our hearing system. What exactly is tinnitus?  Tinnitus is that pestering ringing in the ears, those high-pitched buzzing and whizzing sounds coming from “we do not know where”. There are so many different kinds of sounds and noises to bear with. With this irritating sounds, you are going to have difficulties in concentrating on the things you are doing, may it be at work, at home or even in school. You will feel annoyed because of the siren-like sounds brought about by tinnitus.

Fortunately, tinnitus can be prevented. First, avoid putting objects into your ear. Do not use cotton swabs to clean your ear. This can cause wax impact in your ear drum. Monitor your blood pressure as well. Take the necessary maintenance medicine that your doctor will prescribe. It is important to take care of your blood pressure because high blood pressure can trigger tinnitus.

There are several ways that you can do to protect yourself from extreme noises that cause tinnitus. You should make sure that your place of work follows health and safety regulations. Your hearing should be protected and if it is necessary, wear earplugs or earmuffs. Follow protective guidelines set by work management. If you are operating loud electrical appliances (like lawn mowers, vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, etc.), protect your ears by wearing earplugs. This will reduce the noise. Do not watch televisions with very high volume. Do not express yourself too often to loud environments, like rock concerts, loud fireworks, etc. When taking medications, check for ototoxicity. This can accumulate during medications and increase the damage done by noise. When administering ototoxic medicines, close monitoring of a physician for the right dosage and intervals are important. Also, avoid aspirin.

In order to lessen the intensity of tinnitus, a patient must watch and control his blood pressure and reduce salt intake. He must refrain from drinking nerve stimulants like cola drinks and coffee. Drinks with caffeine must be avoided. Tobacco containing nicotine is also not allowed to patients with tinnitus. Avoid anxiety as this may cause high blood pressure. Do not worry or think much about tinnitus. The more you concentrate on the sounds, the noisier it would become. You need enough rest and exercise. Using of earphones or headphones is strictly forbidden when you are suffering tinnitus. If you listen through earphones, especially in high volume, you may start developing tinnitus.

Tinnitus is more annoying when the surroundings are quiet, especially at night during bedtime. You can remedy this by “masking” the noise. Put on some competing sounds like a radio or a fan. A ticking clock can also help cover the sounds made by tinnitus. Take the necessary measures to lessen the intensity of tinnitus. Do not let yourself be a victim of tinnitus. Prevent it today!
